What you should know about wheelchair access at Arashiyama Bamboo

I went to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove with my Mum.

Getting there

We got off at JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. It’s wheelchair accessible with elevators and bathrooms too.

The experience

It’s peaceful and calming to see tall bamboo. I really enjoyed being immersed and learning more about bamboo.

It’s a long push. It is mostly paved and smooth. It’s quite uphill in parts. Mum pulled me by the hand and pushed me in other parts. Downhill can be scary too. We accepted help from a Spanish guy on the way back down. He walked backwards holding onto the front of my wheelchair.

Other resources

I used the Accessible Japan guide to plan our trip.

Google maps was helpful too.
