December 3 marks International Day of People with Disability.
This years theme is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”. It’s to leave no one behind by strengthening the resilience of People with Disability by providing full access and inclusion.
I would love to see more accessible communities and full inclusion.
I ask questions and want answered before I make plans to help reduce anxiety, avoid being excluded and missing out.
How will I get to my location? Can I take public transport, a taxi or should I drive? Will there be a disability parking space? Is the bus, coach or train wheelchair accessible? Have I let the airline or coach company know of my requirements? How long will it take to get there?
Is the location wheelchair accessible? Are there stairs? It is located on a hill? Will I have to push long distances? Is the surface rough? What is the surface like?
Will there be a wheelchair accessible bathroom? Where will it be located?
Will I be able to see and have access to products and services? Are there high counters or bars? How big is the place?
I love to problem solve and find a way to be involved. Sometimes I will say no because I don’t feel comfortable.
